Beautiful AND useful June 19, 2007 P. Grau (MD) 34 out of 35 found this review helpful
Just fill with water, insert the stem into the soil in your hanging basket and it keeps those outdoor baskets from withering away. In my 16" geranium/petunia hanging basket, it dispensed water for 3 days during 90+ degree temps. I'll bring them in for winter watering of house plants. They have a beautiful art quality.
This thing actually works February 18, 2009 Pilgrim 9 out of 9 found this review helpful
I followed the directions exactly, making a smaller diameter hole, filling the bulb slowly at an angle, and being sure that the bulb did not tilt at all once I inserted it into the soil. The bulb works like a charm. The plant I used it on (philodendron) was also a gift from another neighbor. I quit buying plants because I invariably killed all of them eventually by either overwatering, underwatering or plain neglect. The ones I have are all gifts and I feel so bad when they die that I nurse them back to health only to watch them die again.
Not only does the Aqua Bulb work, it works very well. My neighbor gave me one and I almost laughed in her face but I accepted it and thought why not. I was very skeptical and thought it was another useless TV gimmick. I've been had so many times by those TV-offer products, I assume all of them are trash. The Aqua Bulb works. I don't know how it works because it's been at least 3 weeks since I began using it and it's nowhere near empty. I even wonder if that's good or not, but my plant is thriving so I'm here to purchase more. I'm sold.
very pretty! February 4, 2009 kj (Maryland) 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
I got a set of these and I love them. I use them on 2 indoor plants, and am considering ordering a set for the office. I have quite a lot of plants, and I do have a tendency to give some of them too much love and overwater. These seem to have fixed the problem - I fill them, then don't have to worry about watering those plants at all until the globe is empty. I found that for my 2 plants (in smallish pots - probably 6in diameter or so, one pothos and one arrowhead vine), the globe lasts about 2 weeks. Plants are very happy - not too dry or too wet.
Tip - when you go to refill, sometimes there is dirt stuck in the tip of the tube that just won't shake out, stopping you from filling it. Poke out the dirt with a paperclip or old cake tester and you're fine. Also it takes less time to fill if you do have the water on verrrrry slowly so it doesn't overkill the small tube.
Seems the consensus on colors from where I've seen them is that they are both mostly blue, but one has just white specks and the other has multicolor specks (both very pretty).
Note - I don't know that I'd use these outside. I don't think they're large enough to water an outdoor plant effectively in the heat, and I'd worry about the sun pinpointing through the glass and overheating in a magnifying glass effect (I'm probably just paranoid! The glass isn't smooth, so it's pro be ok - or use in a shady spot).
just make a hole first! April 21, 2009 Madelon Greenspan (West Sonoma County, Ca) 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
I have a lot of different kinds of plants and can not always water them when I want-so I put the globes in most of them(you can not use them easily in small pots as the bulb can fall over).
It's been 3 wks and it's been great! The 2 plants I have had trouble with(usually overwatering) are the happiest. Now I can leave for a few days when it's hot out and not worry. I propped up two bulbs so then can "water" two of my bigger bonsai. You must use a stick(chopsticks work great) to make the hole, put the globe in and see if it gets plugged up. Remove the plug if needed and reinsert-push the dirt back down one the bulb is in place. I have two in two outside plants that are in full sun and it has worked, also (they get extra water when its hot-the bulbs seem to help them not dry out)
Very helpful for indoor plants May 11, 2010 Toodles! (Texas) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I originally researched these as a gift for my mother-in-law and then my husband got them for me as a gift ;)
These watering globes have done a nice job for me for the past 5-6 months. I use them indoors for 8-10 inch plants. During the winter, it seemed like the water lasted for 2 weeks, but in the late spring, seems like they last for a week.
Keys:
-thoroughly water your plant before inserting the globe
-use a chopstick or some type of stick to create a hole for the globe's spout
-refill the water prior to it "totally" running out of water. If it goes empty, then dirt will fill the spout. Its not that big of a deal too clean it out, but still, its easier if it doesn't get filled.
-not needed, but sometimes I'll add some water with a cup if I think about it. Probably not necessary, but adds time to your watering globe.
My plants have stayed perky and look great. This was a nice little gift to me. I think they are worth it when on sale. I'm in Texas, I'm not sure these would work outside in our heat - you would be filling them up often. So, I recommend these globes, but mainly for indoor use.
